I’ll admit to having this exact fantasy. According to Holly Bastin, I’m not alone, which is why she’s started offering classes called Geek Out with Holly that are designed to be like your first day behind the bar at a real coffee shop.

Created as a skill building series, these 2 hour experiences with Holly will give you and your friends an opportunity to step on the other side of the espresso bar and learn some tricks of the trade from a serious pro.

Curious to better understand your impact on espresso flavor? “Espresso 101” focuses strictly on espresso extraction, taking some time to understand our influence and control over the process. To do this we will focus on the most sophisticated tools we have - our senses - seeing, sniffing, feeling & tasting our way to making better coffee. It’s perfect for professional & enthusiast alike!

 

If you have ever tried to steam milk for a latte, you likely learned pretty fast that it takes some finesse to get that beautiful, silky foam. This course will dive deep into all the little things that you can hear, see and feel to guide the process, demystifying the steaming process. Once we’ve got the hang of it, we will explore a traditional coffeehouse menu and start learning the dynamics of how to pour lattes with art in mind.

*As this is a skill building series, this class will make most sense for those who have already taken “Espresso 101” , as we will not have time to cover espresso preparation.
